<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Hello again lades and gents!</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Wow I apologize for not posting anything since October, Seems that the holidays, school and real-life got the best of me,lets see if I can change that for you guy. The holidays are all over and yet I got some awesome new tools to help me out with all my costuming and prop making. The coming year is another big con year for me and I hope to get myself involved with a few more costuming contest and also costuming panels There are a few Cons here n GA that I will only be attending for 1 day and others that I will be attending the whole convention. Here is what my Con schedule is looking like for the current year:</span></span></div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><u><b>Anachracon </b></u>(<i>http://www.anachrocon.com/</i>) February 22-24th 2013: This is a great Steampunk/Alternate history convention here in Atlanta and is moving to a new hotel this year since it has gotten so big. I will prolly only be attending 1 day of this Con due to work.</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><u><b>TrekTrax Atlanta</b></u> (<i>http://trektrax.org/</i>) April 19-20th 2013: This is a small Trek con that is in its third year and is still getting better. The hotel that they are in is a great hotel and a great crowd. I will be attending this one for the whole con due to the fact that I will be on staff for it and also I will be on a few panels. I am also planning participating in the costume contest.</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><u><b>TimeGate</b></u> (<i>http://www.timegatecon.org/index.htm</i>) May 24-26th 2013. This Con is a great combination of Dr.Who and StarGate. The big highlight of this Con this year is the they are going to have a Doctor this year! Colin Baker (The sixth Doctor) will be attending this year so that a big thing to look forward to! We wll prolly only be attending 1 day of this Con due to my work schedule.</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><u><b>Sci Fi Summer Con</b></u> (<i>http://sfscon.tripod.com/</i>)June 7-9, 2013</span> <span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">This is a small Con that focuses on a lot of local writers, costumers, and media stars. I am planing on doing another cheap costuming panel at this Con but will prolly only be attending for one day due to work.</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><u><b>Dragon*Con</b></u>(<i>http://www.dragoncon.org/</i>) August 30 - September 2nd 2013: I will be attending all 4 days of this great Con. If you have never attending Dragon*con then you don't know what you are missing. I Am hoping to be invited back to be on another panel this year. I will also be walking in the parade in full Klingon gear and also be in the Friday night costume contest.</span></span></li>

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Hello again guys and gals!</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> Sorry that tomorrow turned into a few weeks later but between work and
school things have gotten busy. SO where was I...... AHHHHHHH yes
Dragon*Con on Saturday. If you have never made it down for a Dragon*Con
then saturday is the best day to come and check it out. Just to start of
your fun filled day we have a huge parade that marches, dances, walks,
and yells its way down Peachtree street. This year we had 3500 people in
the parade along with 50+ vehicles. In the parade there are costumes
from any fandom you can think of all the way from Star Wars to Harry
Potter. The group I march with is the Obscurus Crusade group (Warhammer
40K). We had 30 people in our group this year that marched in the
parade.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Xq6tpV-iRKw/UH1zIuN1FtI/AAAAAAAAAdU/Fkb4EW7L8K0/s1600/1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="393" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Xq6tpV-iRKw/UH1zIuN1FtI/AAAAAAAAAdU/Fkb4EW7L8K0/s640/1.JPG" width="640" /></a></span></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-z7Yiq3tNZBU/UH1zKK-0__I/AAAAAAAAAdk/UfrZAE48Lgc/s1600/564530_3648614180974_1975804667_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a></span></span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> After the Parade this year I spent most of the time exploring the dealers room and on a personal mission. I decided after speaking to <a href="http://www.voltaire.net/">Voltaire</a> year and finding out that he was a Warhammer 40K fan I decided this year that I would get him to sign my plague banner. So after missing him all day friday I was finally able to catch him at his table on saturday afternoon. After a short chat he totally agreed to sign the banner and even said he was "proud to sign it and felt honored"</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">After the Voltair mission was accomplished me and the wife spent the day walking around the con snapping pics and also window shopping and ohhhhhhh-ing and ahhhhhh-ing at stuff.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Later that evening I had to redress in the Plague preacher costume to get my picture taken and also get interviewed by CNN. The CNN interview (<a href="http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-831217">here is a link</a>) was part of an I-Report program called Dragon*Con Before and After. They interviewed a lot of costumers and Cosplayers that were coming to Dragon*con and asked them to send a before picture and then at the convention they would finish the interviews and take the after picture.</span></span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">So ladies and gents that was the highlights of my Dragon*Con experience...... I hear the voices out there asking but the Con was 4 days long, what about Sunday and Monday?? Our Sunday experience was spent checking out the dealers tables and art galleries and seeing friends and we didn't attend on Monday due to me having to work that evening.</span></span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">Hello all!!!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Wow two months and no post form me, bet you guys thought I didn't love ya anymore huh? Well guess what.... I'MMMMMMM BACKKKKKK! Sorry for no post in august I was spending most of the month doing finishing touches on my Plague Preacher costume and getting ready for my panel. So today's post is gonna be a short one and filled with pictures from the convention:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Day 1 (Friday)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> Friday is the first official day of the convention and we started it out nice and early walking around and watching the convention fill up. We spent most of the time just killing time till I had to go and help set up a meet and greet with my Warhammer 40,000 Costuming group <a href="http://z6.invisionfree.com/Obscurus_Crusade/index.php?">Obscurus Crusade</a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-k1gczzYxnBo/UFjF1Kfv96I/AAAAAAAAAbA/bCFE9J_4MQE/s1600/IMG_1523.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-k1gczzYxnBo/UFjF1Kfv96I/AAAAAAAAAbA/bCFE9J_4MQE/s400/IMG_1523.JPG" width="298" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IFqqwbEfrbM/UFjFybAyG_I/AAAAAAAAAaw/pkQfNT-dv-A/s1600/IMG_1521.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="237" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IFqqwbEfrbM/UFjFybAyG_I/AAAAAAAAAaw/pkQfNT-dv-A/s320/IMG_1521.JPG" width="320" /></a></span><div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">After a great meet up and handing out some parade passes I had to take off early from the meet and greet so that I could make it to my very first Dragon*Con costuming panel. The panel I was invited to speak on was called <u><i><b>"Costuming on a Shoestring Budget". </b></i></u>I walked in and wasn't expecting to see that many people there but was really surprised when I walked into a full room. I have to say was a new experience sitting up on the stage looking out on the crowd:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Xy9CRw1i2BU/UFjMzoJtCFI/AAAAAAAAAbk/rjEXvR45kTM/s1600/crowd.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="235" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Xy9CRw1i2BU/UFjMzoJtCFI/AAAAAAAAAbk/rjEXvR45kTM/s640/crowd.jpg" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">The panel was a lot of fun and got asked lots of questions. Thanks to <a href="http://www.facebook.com/lee.cox.9?ref=ts">Lee Cox</a>, The director of the Dragon*Con costuming Track for inviting me to be on the panel.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Well after the costuming panel we had a few hours to kill before me and the wife had to start getting me dressed for the Friday night costume contest. It took us about an hour to get me dressed in my costume and off to the contest. The Friday night costume is set up like this: you check in the at the room and sit and wait for them to call your name to go see the judges, you get 3-5 ins with the judges to show them the costume and all your work in progress info and answer questions, then you go an set back down and wait for the judging to finish so they can line you up to go out on stage. While you are waiting they have a photographer in the back to take nice pictures of you. After you go on stage you wait behind stage to see if you won or not. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9pBpj1OE1Ok/UFjPDzLK6KI/AAAAAAAAAbs/RykL3DmdUk4/s1600/395277_10101580210532270_2114056070_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9pBpj1OE1Ok/UFjPDzLK6KI/AAAAAAAAAbs/RykL3DmdUk4/s320/395277_10101580210532270_2114056070_n.jpg" width="320" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yLZKVZQh9sE/UFjPElLtd0I/AAAAAAAAAb0/rLFU6Txclgo/s1600/546110_3705310750968_1499875202_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yLZKVZQh9sE/UFjPElLtd0I/AAAAAAAAAb0/rLFU6Txclgo/s320/546110_3705310750968_1499875202_n.jpg" width="238" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Turns out right before we were supposed to go on stage I was informed that the judges were impressed with my costuming skills and moved me out of the <u><b>Novice</b></u> (<i> for attendees age 15 and up that are new to costuming or have never won an award for costuming at a major convention that promotes or focuses on costuming. This level is for newbies: the ones that have talents, want to learn more and be judged on their designs and efforts.) </i>category and into the <u><b>Journeyman</b></u> ( <i>intended for those that have been working at the art of costuming for a few years and have entered and/or won any number of costuming contests in the past. Even if they have been away from making costumes or entering contests for years, they are still considered a Journeyman (or higher) based on past skills and efforts.)</i>category. I didn't place in the main categories but did win an award for<u><i><b> Best Representation of a Literary Character</b></i></u></span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<span style="font-size: large;">After the costume contest we walked around the convention for a few more hour before we ran off to a late night panle that me and the wife wanted to attend called <u><i><b>A Steampunk Guide to Sex</b></i></u>. Was an awesome panel "geared" (hu hu see what I did there) towards some more adult themes. After the panel I was able to get my picture with Sara Hunter AKA <span class="st"><a href="http://www.littledeathray.com/">Lady Clankington:</a></span></span><br />

This is my second appearance at a Con as a costuming panelist, and my first (hope not my last one) one at Dragon*Con so wish me luck. The panel I have been asked to set on is Creating on a Shoestring Budget and is Friday august 31st at 1 pm. So enough about me tooting my own horn on to the costuming:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Ok so the project we are gonna cover is the very cheap plague belt I made for my costume. This is pretty much the total bits I used for the costume:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e7MVeI6FHvk/UAmohW7oHJI/AAAAAAAAAYo/-wzX1zu9RaI/s1600/IMG_1390.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e7MVeI6FHvk/UAmohW7oHJI/AAAAAAAAAYo/-wzX1zu9RaI/s400/IMG_1390.JPG" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>2 empty water bottles-- $2.00<br />7 containers of neon green slime-- $7.00<br />1 foot plastic tube-- free from work<br /> 1 Thick cardboard shipping tube -- Free<br />4 popsicle sticks-- Free (just ate the popsicles) <br />1 web gear belt-- Free ( my collection of military gear)<br />1 box carpet tacks-- .89<br />assorted paints<br />modge podge<br />Gauze<br />total cost= $9.89 </b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The first thing I did was cut the cardboard tube down to the size of the water bottles. I cut it just the size to hide the water bottles.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_oYLrkIk3D8/UAmoi9jgh4I/AAAAAAAAAYw/TDSXkKonRvw/s1600/IMG_1391.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_oYLrkIk3D8/UAmoi9jgh4I/AAAAAAAAAYw/TDSXkKonRvw/s320/IMG_1391.JPG" width="238" /></a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I actually had to use my Dremal to cut this cardboard tube due to how thick it was. Lots and lots of cardboard fluff flying around. Once we got them cut down we had to decided on the design that we wanted so that you could see the holder and also see the bottles inside. so here is the design we went with:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-j8_wr6hf8_Q/UAmokSgxukI/AAAAAAAAAY4/b6rIbfvyd9g/s1600/IMG_1397.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-j8_wr6hf8_Q/UAmokSgxukI/AAAAAAAAAY4/b6rIbfvyd9g/s320/IMG_1397.JPG" width="239" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">After everything was cut I started to reinforce the cardboard with what I had laying around the house.......DUCT-TAPE!!! I decided to support the neck of the design with a few popsicle sticks to make it a little stronger. After I glued in the sticks I added a layer of tap of them to lock them into place:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lPkj4BWbcDU/UAmomIVNgKI/AAAAAAAAAZA/1dw9RbBbxOI/s1600/IMG_1398.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lPkj4BWbcDU/UAmomIVNgKI/AAAAAAAAAZA/1dw9RbBbxOI/s320/IMG_1398.JPG" width="239" /></a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The water bottles had nothing special done to them except that I drilled a small hole in the top to insert the plastic tubing in. I filled each of the bottles with 4 bottles of slime each:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-89q0jfnPtLU/UAmonXROJpI/AAAAAAAAAZI/8IFcHDVsAPE/s1600/IMG_1399.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-89q0jfnPtLU/UAmonXROJpI/AAAAAAAAAZI/8IFcHDVsAPE/s320/IMG_1399.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">After I made sure the water bottles fit in the holders I spray-painted them with black paint. After the paint dried I noticed that the paint was not sticking to the tape so I decided to use a little gauze and glue to mimic the skin look I have used on my mask hoses:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qYfzwJLlLqI/UAmoospJLsI/AAAAAAAAAZQ/ufV70nFawnE/s1600/IMG_1404.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qYfzwJLlLqI/UAmoospJLsI/AAAAAAAAAZQ/ufV70nFawnE/s320/IMG_1404.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">After looking at how they looked I realized they looked a little plain so I took some carpet tacks I had laying around the house and used them to look like rivets. I had to use a small pair of wire cutters to trim off most of the pin back to make them fit without poking into the water bottles:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vPIbNaArMLQ/UAmop3e46kI/AAAAAAAAAZY/qu53noeoYy0/s1600/IMG_1405.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vPIbNaArMLQ/UAmop3e46kI/AAAAAAAAAZY/qu53noeoYy0/s320/IMG_1405.JPG" width="239" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I know a few people are wondering how I got the green goo into the tubes and also got it to stay. Well the way I did that was that actually had to suck the goo into the tube (yes it taste horrible). Once I got the amount i wanted in the tubes I took small pieces of tape and rolled them and stuffed them in the end and then put a layer of Epoxy resin over the top. This was about the time I realized that I could not clue the hoses in the bottle or the skull because it would gut down on a lot of my movement. So what I did to fix this problem was I still drilled the holes to insert the hoses and once the holes we glued shut I took a small zip-tie and pulled it as tight as I could around the end of the tube. When you cut off the extra it leaves the small locking piece and it keeps the hoses from pulling all the way out:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://i1077.photobucket.com/albums/w475/johnnystump/Plague%20preacher%202012/IMG_1442.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i1077.photobucket.com/albums/w475/johnnystump/Plague%20preacher%202012/IMG_1442.jpg" width="238" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Please pardon how rough my thumb looks; many years of biting my fingernails and hard work!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Ok sooo here we are with the complete mask layout with the belt attached to the skull. I will tell you now that the belt will be changed in the future. The web belt just does not fit into the total costume:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FQZt7eEHlAA/UAmotDQikMI/AAAAAAAAAZs/mHmMxvkZFrA/s1600/IMG_1408.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FQZt7eEHlAA/UAmotDQikMI/AAAAAAAAAZs/mHmMxvkZFrA/s320/IMG_1408.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Just to give you an idea of how everything looks on me here is a quick picture:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XGCtmWzTrcs/UAmoupg_g9I/AAAAAAAAAZ0/GqS_sVIm7Bs/s1600/IMG_1420.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XGCtmWzTrcs/UAmoupg_g9I/AAAAAAAAAZ0/GqS_sVIm7Bs/s400/IMG_1420.JPG" width="298" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">The goggles and the mask are 2 separate pieces so that its not one whole mask. The only issues I have seen so far with the mask is that it kills all my side vision and limits my movement just a bit. Well ladies and gents I'm gonna close this up and get back to work. I am going to try and get a few more post out before Dragon*Con. If you see me walking around the Convention in the costume come by and say hello... I have goodies to give out: </span><br />

<b><span style="font-size: small;">Sorry for the long time between post but with Dragon*Con 2012 fast approaching its been busy, busy between costuming, Con, and work! This last weekend was a great weekend I was invited to present a panel on cheap costuming at a small local Con called <a href="http://sfscon.tripod.com/" target="_blank">Sci-Fi Summer Con</a>. I had myself, my wife and another friend all talking to a small gathering (10+ people) about ways to do very cheap costuming and still look good. The below pic is from the sixpence Costuming blog panel on Budget Costuming</span></b></div>

<b><span style="font-size: small;">OK so on to our topic today. I told you back in <a href="http://sixpencecostuming.blogspot.com/2012/05/let-your-chaos-flag-fly-part-1-plague.html" target="_blank">part one</a> of the plague banner that this part would cover all the extras that I made for the banner. So away we go, I'm gonna break this into sections on each part:</span></b></div>
<div style="color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></b></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><b><span style="font-size: small;">Finished censers</span></b></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</div>
<div style="color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: small;">These were actually some of the cheapest props to make. You could use these as censers or as a flail. If you haven't figured out what they are yet......WIFFLE BALLS! You can get a bag of 4 of them at the dollar store. A word of advice here before you glue them together make sure you paint the inside of them or your gonna have a heck of a time painting it. I used a small amount of Epoxy resin to glue them together. After they were glued together i spray painted them with a hammered silver spray paint ( <a href="http://www.krylon.com/products/fusion_for_plastic_hammered_finish/" target="_blank">Krylon Fusion for plastics</a>). After the paint dried I used a method of stressing called the Vaseline method, then I spayed with with a hammered copper color. This method is done by taking a small amount of Vaseline and tabbing it on the places you want to the see the undercoat then spraying on your next coat. When the top coat drys you take a rag and wipe off the Vaseline and it takes the top color with it showing you the base color.</span></b><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><b><span style="font-size: small;"><a href="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/John_Stump/6PCB/IMG_1153.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/John_Stump/6PCB/IMG_1153.jpg" width="238" /></a></span></b></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><b><span style="font-size: small;">After wiping off Vaseline</span></b></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<b><span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></b><br />
<b><span style="font-size: small;"> On these what I did was once I wiped away the copper paint to expose the silver. Once everything dried I used the "<a href="http://sixpencecostuming.blogspot.com/2012/04/dirty-dirty-dirt.html" target="_blank">Dirt method</a>"</span></b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: small;"><a href="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/John_Stump/6PCB/IMG_1173.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/John_Stump/6PCB/IMG_1173.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></b></div>
<b><span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></b><br />
<b><span style="font-size: small;"> I posted a few back to add some grunge to it. After everything was nice and dry I took it outside and splashed it with a black paint wash to make it look nasty and also to make the "dirt" stand out. When all this was done I took a large amount of the dirt mixture and rubbed it in my hands and rubbed it all over the chains to make them look nasty also. the plan later is to add a glow stick and cotton to the inside to make them glow.</span></b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: small;"><a href="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/John_Stump/6PCB/IMG_1332.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/John_Stump/6PCB/IMG_1332.jpg" width="238" /></a></span></b></div>

<b><span style="font-size: small;">This is another of those awesome after Halloween finds and also a Dollar store find! I know I have said it many many many times in this blog but I'm gonna say it again...... <u>DOLLAR STORE IS YOUR FRIEND</u>. They tend to have some of the most awesome Halloween decorations for cheap. When I bought Squiggles he was just a bony skeleton in the cage:</span></b><br />

<b><span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></b><br />
<b><span style="font-size: small;">As you can see very plain and simple. The first thing I
did was free him from his cage by cutting the edges of some of the bars
with an X-acto and pulling him out. then I removed his hips and legs (don't worry he didn't scream that much) after the hips and legs were removed it was a simple task of breaking out some Sculpty clay and making some tentacles for him and a horn ( yes my sculpting skill need LOTS of work):</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">

<div style="color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: small;"> After the clay was dry I put Squiggles back into his cage and clued it shut with a few small dabs of Epoxy resin and tied the whole thing down with rubber bands to help it dry. After the cage dried I took a small foam pad and dry-brushed on a small amount of silver paint to make the chain a cage look worn:</span></b></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">Hello guys and gals!!</span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Sorry for the long break in post been a busy few weeks with Trek Trax Atlanta winding down (<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ussrepublic/sets/72157629563682550/" target="_blank">pictures for all to see</a>) and a wedding coming this weekend busy, busy, busy. Thought I would share with you guys the 99% complete plague banner and how it was built. So here is the completed banner:</span></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IelnJox8KgI/T6FPqsUc5LI/AAAAAAAAAQQ/VHkpY5P4jXs/s1600/IMG_1216.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IelnJox8KgI/T6FPqsUc5LI/AAAAAAAAAQQ/VHkpY5P4jXs/s320/IMG_1216.JPG" width="239" /></a></span></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Banner outside home</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">So this banner started off with humble beginnings:</span></div>
<ul style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<li><span style="font-size: large;">2 pieces of PVC pipe ($2.25 at Home Depot)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">1 L-joint ($.50 at Home Depot)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">3 wiffle balls ($1.00 at dollar store)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">1 yard of duck cloth canvas ($7.99 at walmart) </span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">2 lengths of plastic chains from Halloween</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">1 Skeleton in cage ($1.00 at Dollar store)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">1/2 cube of Sculpy clay</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">Skull beads</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">push pin backs</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">1 can textured paint (stone)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">1 can beaten copper paint (krylon fusion)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">few handfuls of "dirt mixture" (<a href="http://sixpencecostuming.blogspot.com/2012/04/dirty-dirty-dirt.html" target="_blank">see past article</a>)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">assorted paints</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">1 box teabags ($1.00 at dollar store) </span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">1 Awesome printer gal at Kinkos/Fed-Ex</span></li>
</ul>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The 2 biggest things with this banner was trying to figure out the symbol for it and also the material of the banner. The symbol was not very hard since there are really to main symbols for nurgle in the 40K universe The fly symbol and the triple circle symbols"</span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IlcRYpbQ4e8/T6p3zpZzy-I/AAAAAAAAAQk/xRDFpnYV9a4/s1600/images.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="187" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IlcRYpbQ4e8/T6p3zpZzy-I/AAAAAAAAAQk/xRDFpnYV9a4/s200/images.jpg" width="200" /></a></span></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">triple circle</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MAv1-gQa9EM/T6p3hETq9eI/AAAAAAAAAQc/-uC-rxSvgdg/s1600/nurgleflyonwhite.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MAv1-gQa9EM/T6p3hETq9eI/AAAAAAAAAQc/-uC-rxSvgdg/s200/nurgleflyonwhite.jpg" width="185" /></a></span></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Fly</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The material for the banner was a different story. We looked at a few material before we decided to use the canvas material so it wouldn't flap around as much.</span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">After decideing on the material and symbol I took a JPEG file of the fly symbol to my local Kinnko's/fed ex store and had them enlarge it and print i out for me on standard paper, all said and done cost me $3.25 for it. I took the enlarged picture home and cut it out to make a stencil to lay on top of the banner:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pSJiR5BmS4g/T25EvLACTBI/AAAAAAAAAIw/lcSLYavNDT0/s1600/IMG_1115.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pSJiR5BmS4g/T25EvLACTBI/AAAAAAAAAIw/lcSLYavNDT0/s320/IMG_1115.JPG" width="239" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JPsC6yCByK0/T25Ew7GvEjI/AAAAAAAAAI4/lFCq1ecs5A4/s1600/IMG_1116.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JPsC6yCByK0/T25Ew7GvEjI/AAAAAAAAAI4/lFCq1ecs5A4/s320/IMG_1116.JPG" width="239" /></a></span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I actually used a crap load of pins to stick it to the cloth so that it would not move while i painted it on with black Fabric paint, I also put a layer of plastic under it so that the paint would not bleed thru:</span></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XtgVTOtNDrk/T25Eyi0o2jI/AAAAAAAAAJA/Kji_bpZhu8w/s1600/IMG_1117.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XtgVTOtNDrk/T25Eyi0o2jI/AAAAAAAAAJA/Kji_bpZhu8w/s320/IMG_1117.JPG" width="239" /></a></span></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">painting</span></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Let the paint dry for a few hours before I removed the stencil and touched up the edges:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h7Os4phXwd0/T25E0bMNkrI/AAAAAAAAAJI/Yon1f9yqW00/s1600/IMG_1122.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h7Os4phXwd0/T25E0bMNkrI/AAAAAAAAAJI/Yon1f9yqW00/s320/IMG_1122.JPG" width="239" /></a></span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">After the paint dried so that I could touch it I took the circles i cut from the patterne on the wings and used them to trace circles back on the wings and painted them with a rotten flesh paint I have used on a good bit of this project</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aKO1iYZtCdQ/T25E16lMNiI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/8LeMBmPsZ04/s1600/IMG_1124.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aKO1iYZtCdQ/T25E16lMNiI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/8LeMBmPsZ04/s320/IMG_1124.JPG" width="239" /></a></span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Now I know some people are prolly saying "well i see some mistakes here and there" or "oh i see paint smears" Yes those were all mistakes but added to the banner cause well its a banner to the plague god and nasty is good!!</span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> Now what banner to a chaos god would not be complete without some mystical looking writing and symbols:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iTko2tCZkLE/T6FOxaYr4sI/AAAAAAAAANc/T-Fwx1w8vrY/s1600/IMG_1135.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iTko2tCZkLE/T6FOxaYr4sI/AAAAAAAAANc/T-Fwx1w8vrY/s400/IMG_1135.JPG" width="298" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0eJpuwFOFPI/T6FOyr6fj6I/AAAAAAAAANk/5KhQ2smsO7Y/s1600/IMG_1136.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0eJpuwFOFPI/T6FOyr6fj6I/AAAAAAAAANk/5KhQ2smsO7Y/s320/IMG_1136.JPG" width="238" /></a></span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">All the symbols and such were either made up or mixed and matched from other symbol groups. They were all traced in pencil then gone over with black fabric paint.</span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">During this time A few freinds were talking to me about dyeing the canvas a color to get away from the bright white color it was, so after talking to a few people I attempted the method where you dye cloth with tea:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EEt2e3nb0DI/T6FO8sROauI/AAAAAAAAAOE/hfGTJwgqrwE/s1600/IMG_1151.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EEt2e3nb0DI/T6FO8sROauI/AAAAAAAAAOE/hfGTJwgqrwE/s320/IMG_1151.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">As you can see BIG difference! so after much worrying about paint peeling an such I brewed up 2 gallons of tea and dumped it in a big tupperware box and dropped the banner in and soaked it for a few hours and this is what i ended up with:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--xIpbN41xUI/T6FO-3qj52I/AAAAAAAAAOM/vGh57Y-i2Mc/s1600/IMG_1152.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--xIpbN41xUI/T6FO-3qj52I/AAAAAAAAAOM/vGh57Y-i2Mc/s400/IMG_1152.JPG" width="298" /></a></span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">so after seeing how well this worked a took the extra material I had and soaked all of it in Tea and let it dry. I then decided a needed a few dedication papers for the banner so off I went back to the symbol writing board, Again all the symbols were drawn out in pencil and traced in black or red fabric paint:</span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9dRHKWB_DiU/T6FPjr_mTNI/AAAAAAAAAP4/hdYcaPbMZRo/s1600/IMG_1206.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="476" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9dRHKWB_DiU/T6FPjr_mTNI/AAAAAAAAAP4/hdYcaPbMZRo/s640/IMG_1206.JPG" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The one in the middle was actually soaked in mustard and green paint for a few moments</span><span style="font-size: large;"> to see the effect.</span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">After the banner was finished everyone told me I need to "stress" it out a bit aka mess it up sooooo back out side I went, I used a charcoal lighter, a bowl of water and paper towels to ft the burns on the cloth. They were made by ripping the cloth and then setting it on fire and letting it smolder anf then smothering it with wet paper towels before it burst into flames. The rips on the bottom were made by making a small cut and ripping the cloth by hand. The stains on the cloth were made by a small amount of paint and water in a cup and then slung on to the banner with a foam brush:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-E5Id3od_v0E/T6FPmFsi6sI/AAAAAAAAAQA/GkIV_9OynsA/s1600/IMG_1214.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-E5Id3od_v0E/T6FPmFsi6sI/AAAAAAAAAQA/GkIV_9OynsA/s640/IMG_1214.JPG" width="478" /></a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: large;">Well ladies and gent this is finishing part one of the banner!!! tomorrow part two is gonna give you the hints i used to make the banner pole and all the extras for the banner, until then thanks for reading and sharing!!!</span></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18147119453905054849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4712563457171527453.post-75514821832619761132012-04-10T15:07:00.000-07:002012-04-10T15:07:01.043-07:00Dirty, Dirty Dirt<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Howdy ladies and gents!!!</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Be shocked and amazed two article in one month!!!! Been a busy first part of the month getting ready for TXA <a href="http://trektrax.org/" target="_blank">(Trek Trax Atlanta on April 20-22</a>) and getting my Klingon on. Took a break from my Klingon costuming to work a little bit on the plague banner. I looked around at hobby lobby and such and realized that sand and mold pre-made tends to cost you a bit if you buy it. If you go to any hobby store and look for flocking like you use in a model it will cost you a bit. I was sitting around one day and wondered if i could make my own mold and dirt that would stick to my props and not suck my wallet dry. So after a little experimenting I ended up with this:</span></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vjI1j0Xba4g/T4SmPgMog0I/AAAAAAAAAKw/5AUasYybMqI/s1600/IMG_1170.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vjI1j0Xba4g/T4SmPgMog0I/AAAAAAAAAKw/5AUasYybMqI/s320/IMG_1170.JPG" width="239" /></a></span></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Inside</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AnHUJB51i2E/T4SmeSfPeEI/AAAAAAAAALA/_p-vzCNt5sM/s1600/IMG_1173.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AnHUJB51i2E/T4SmeSfPeEI/AAAAAAAAALA/_p-vzCNt5sM/s320/IMG_1173.JPG" width="320" /> </a></span></td><td style="text-align: center;"></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">in sun</span></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I posted a few of these pics on a costuming group I am part of and the main comment I got was that it looked to shiny and bright. So after a little experimenting here is what I came up with you will need the following ingredients:</span></div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<li><span style="font-size: large;">Modge Podge Matte glue ( you can get at any hobby store or <a href="http://shop.plaidonline.com/mod-podge/92/product.htm" target="_blank">here</a>)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">Fine craft sand (got 1 1/2 pounds at Hobby Lobby for $2.49)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">Paints (depends on what color you what your dirt or mold to be)</span></li>
</ul>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">So lets get started this is what I use to make mine:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AhpDdjAYndo/T4SoMISliNI/AAAAAAAAALY/4n-aFXR2QdI/s1600/IMG_1199.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AhpDdjAYndo/T4SoMISliNI/AAAAAAAAALY/4n-aFXR2QdI/s320/IMG_1199.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The paint colors I use are:</span></div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<li><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://privateerpress.com/content/thrall-flesh" target="_blank">Thrall Flesh</a></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://privateerpress.com/content/blighted-gold" target="_blank">Blighted Gold</a></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://www.ccgarmory.com/cidhst.html" target="_blank">Dheneb Stone</a></span></li>
</ul>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> Now go get yourself a small container you dont mind using and something to stir with unless you dont mind using your fingers (I use mine). Pour yourself out a small pile of the sand ( the amount depends on how much you wanna make or how thick you want it to be:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2aZDM4mpE0Y/T4SoOhipwcI/AAAAAAAAALg/pd22PUJQ7sg/s1600/IMG_1200.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2aZDM4mpE0Y/T4SoOhipwcI/AAAAAAAAALg/pd22PUJQ7sg/s320/IMG_1200.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> Now add in your glue I suggest starting out with a small amount and build up:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U15zo8qcE3w/T4SoSHEDu8I/AAAAAAAAALo/-ZNOgr6ZikU/s1600/IMG_1201.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U15zo8qcE3w/T4SoSHEDu8I/AAAAAAAAALo/-ZNOgr6ZikU/s320/IMG_1201.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">If you add to much glue then add some more sand to it, don't worry you can add more sand or glue if you get it to thick. Now is the time to add your paint (remember paint will add a little liquid to the mix so be prepared to add in a little sand). Give it all a good stirring to make sure the paint is mixed in. <i><b><u>****Now that you have added paint it will stain the same color as the paint so be careful.****</u></b></i> If you want to make a mix with out the paint then it will dry the color of the sand. </span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2wH-mkEiIqo/T4SoTpcJA_I/AAAAAAAAALw/Xe4wdvvsaxY/s1600/IMG_1202.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2wH-mkEiIqo/T4SoTpcJA_I/AAAAAAAAALw/Xe4wdvvsaxY/s320/IMG_1202.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">without paint</span></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z1FK-c8PXvw/T4SoVnMKPII/AAAAAAAAAL4/rJe87DkVD8Q/s1600/IMG_1203.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z1FK-c8PXvw/T4SoVnMKPII/AAAAAAAAAL4/rJe87DkVD8Q/s320/IMG_1203.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Paint added to mix</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; font-size: large;">If you decided not to use any paint the mix will dry clear and a little bit shiny. the thicker you make the mix the easier it will be to make small hills or dips that can soak up paint.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-n7kQePTcfa0/T4SmjV5-1FI/AAAAAAAAALQ/stQqLFg_fDM/s1600/IMG_1180.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-n7kQePTcfa0/T4SmjV5-1FI/AAAAAAAAALQ/stQqLFg_fDM/s320/IMG_1180.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; font-size: large;"> One thing here is that you can make this as thick or thin as you like. The mix will take a few hours to dry and then you need to spray it with some type of sealant or the sand will flake off as you touch it.</span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; font-size: large;"> With a little paint and some washes you can end up with some pretty dirty dirt</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The Next Generation<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Hello all!!!!</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Sorry I haven't written a post in a bit we have been really busy the last few weeks gearing up for a few local conventions in our area and also for our wedding in May. Before I get into today's blog let me do a little promoting for the local convention we are attending this month:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://trektrax.org/" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="170" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MASQT2qEqUs/T3r_FKrveII/AAAAAAAAAJo/nwPffjTx5XM/s400/MainTitle2012.jpg" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> This is a new Trek convention here in the GA area, it is also its second year running. It is a small convention that is also a great social convention. make sure you come by in April and check it out!</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">OK so on to today's topic wayyyyyy back in January I posted a blog about my <a href="http://sixpencecostuming.blogspot.com/2012/01/100-store-klingon-bracers.html" target="_blank">$1.00 Klingon Bracers</a> and promised to keep you guys updated on them. Well after a trip to Goodwill my $1.00 bracers have increased in price they are no a whopping........ wait for it...... $3.00 Klingon bracers! The trip to Goodwill was supposed to be a Nerf hunt but turned into a treasure hunt. I found a pair of children's shin guards that fit my arm just perfect and they only cost me $2.00 to grab:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LB-Cjg4D42Y/T3sCDNmdjiI/AAAAAAAAAJw/IfGFOfNCp6Y/s1600/IMG_0714.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LB-Cjg4D42Y/T3sCDNmdjiI/AAAAAAAAAJw/IfGFOfNCp6Y/s320/IMG_0714.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The biggest changes that had to be made to them was to take the cloth padding out of the inside and a small amount on cutting to make them fit the original bracers</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aHUDItY87PA/T3sE7yRBeoI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/PPaFPECe8-I/s1600/IMG_1010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aHUDItY87PA/T3sE7yRBeoI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/PPaFPECe8-I/s320/IMG_1010.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> To get the plastic original bracers to fit the shin guards I heated them with a household blow dryer ( yes I'm to cheap to buy a heat gun) and laid them on top of the shin guard and held them down with a few rubber bands pulled tight to hold them till they cooled down. After they cooled off I glued them down with hot glue and a small amount of <a href="http://www.eclecticproducts.com/all_purpose.htm" target="_blank">Goop</a>.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">After they cooled down I decided to to continue the paint job on the plastic bracers onto the shin guards to tie them together:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sQzGrYvM2pc/T3sHyxTJa3I/AAAAAAAAAKI/1rWuvdf5SMk/s1600/IMG_1011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sQzGrYvM2pc/T3sHyxTJa3I/AAAAAAAAAKI/1rWuvdf5SMk/s200/IMG_1011.JPG" width="149" /></a></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">If you look at a lot of pictures of the Klingon costume you see claws on the gloves, I decided to take the idea and add the claws to the bracers. So off to Hobby Lobby I go, they sale in their leather working section a small bag of plastic claws for $3.00. I didn't add the cost of the claws into the bracers because I can use the left overs in another costume. So a little work with my Dremel and a lot of hot glue (now i think back I should have used epoxy) I got the claws attached to the bracers:</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">The funny thing with the side view picture is you can see part of the crafting room and up in the top corner is a view at my idea/reference board for the plague preacher. <span style="font-size: large;">Hello all!!!!</span></div>
<div style="color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Sorry for the lack of articles this month been having a lot of stuff going on this month with getting engaged on Valentines Day... Yes I know big softy huh? OK at the end of our last article I promised you guys a special on my Valentines day gift to my Girlfriend (now fiance) so lets take a step away from costuming for a minute and do a little arts and crafts.</span></div>
<div style="color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I have been planning to propose since about November but have been looking for a great (and geeky) way to do it. One day I was looking at the <a href="http://wedinator.icanhascheezburger.com/" target="_blank">Wedinator picture site</a> and this picture jumped out at me and stuck into my head:</span></div>
<div style="color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bRt01klY3PI/T0z6ND5mb1I/AAAAAAAAAF8/_xFKHSiVIa0/s1600/IMG_0970.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bRt01klY3PI/T0z6ND5mb1I/AAAAAAAAAF8/_xFKHSiVIa0/s320/IMG_0970.JPG" width="239" /></a></span></div>
<div style="color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I thought this was an awesome picture and decided that this is what I was going to and bet that I could make it a little cooler. So away we go to our neighborhood Hobby Lobby. I walked around hobby lobby for a little bit looking at first for the items to copy this. I found them and then proceeded to look for ways to make it better. I have to give props to the staff of Hobby lobby for not looking at me like an idiot while asking questions about things. While I was walking thru the wood section this jumped out at me </span><span style="font-size: large;">For some reason this wood box just jumped out at me:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ndDdQjjnMJI/T0z6QIlj0EI/AAAAAAAAAGM/X7FXIREQvVo/s1600/IMG_1024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ndDdQjjnMJI/T0z6QIlj0EI/AAAAAAAAAGM/X7FXIREQvVo/s320/IMG_1024.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div style="color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> I had found my box now I needed to find something for the "ring" to sit on. I walked over to the paper items section to see what I could find. I walked around a little bit till I found this:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GGJCDIII5_o/T0z6Rc26u5I/AAAAAAAAAGU/1obncc-Cyos/s1600/IMG_1025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GGJCDIII5_o/T0z6Rc26u5I/AAAAAAAAAGU/1obncc-Cyos/s320/IMG_1025.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> This is just a paper heart made form newspaper. the final things i picked up at Hobby Lobby was a few paints and then off to Wal-Mart for the "ring".</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">At Wal-Mart it took me a few moment to find out where they hid the rings at.... If you haven't figured out yet what the ring is.........:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JTn6Zuqb0yE/T0_E8pHDa3I/AAAAAAAAAGc/jqYB-e9vAyc/s1600/IMG_1060.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JTn6Zuqb0yE/T0_E8pHDa3I/AAAAAAAAAGc/jqYB-e9vAyc/s320/IMG_1060.JPG" width="239" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><u><b><i>YES !!!! Ring Pops!!!</i></b></u></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This was the part that was geeky and fun for me. Now we get to the meat of the project making the project. The box its self was not that much work besides paining and sealing. The cool thing that happened was another one of what I call a "happy accident". I was trying to apply a clear glaze to the wood when it started to peel off. I decided to sand it off and start over, while sanding I noticed that the paint was taking on a very aged look:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PsQv3cJeu8k/T0_K1Fza38I/AAAAAAAAAGs/YRL2e-LJ_ZE/s1600/IMG_1063.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PsQv3cJeu8k/T0_K1Fza38I/AAAAAAAAAGs/YRL2e-LJ_ZE/s320/IMG_1063.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">So after stepping back and looking at that I decided to sand the whole box for that aged wood look:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AlxmrtaMWnw/T0_Kzh2QviI/AAAAAAAAAGk/upOifcXJZIU/s1600/IMG_1062.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AlxmrtaMWnw/T0_Kzh2QviI/AAAAAAAAAGk/upOifcXJZIU/s320/IMG_1062.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The heart was the most simple part all I did was cut a slot for the ring and painted the heart with maroon paint. The most work I did to the "ring" was painted the base silver since my Girlfriend dosent like gold. So after about a month of work here is the final piece:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #f3f3f3; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">

<div style="color: white; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br />Hello again all. been a few days since out last post on here, got caught up with the <a href="http://www.startrekonline.com/">Star Trek Online</a> Free 2 Play event that started up at the end of January and the Big 2 year birthday even they had on Feb 2nd. But that's over so on to costuming..... <br /><br /><br /> OK so I noticed that will all the talk about spray painting I hadn't talked about a very important thing... <br /> <span style="font-size: x-large;"><b><i><u>TAPE!! </u></i></b></span> <br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HmZQ1jhwS3g/TzRLZAWp_2I/AAAAAAAAAFg/r9-KFVmc790/s1600/IMG_0864.JPG"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HmZQ1jhwS3g/TzRLZAWp_2I/AAAAAAAAAFg/r9-KFVmc790/s400/IMG_0864.JPG" /></a><br />Now this is one thing that I will say go and spend a little bit of money and buy good tape. The Dollar Store tape is not a good idea and can screw you up in the end. The Dollar Store tape tends to tear off at crazy spots or not at all and also tends not to stick very well. I use 2 tapes in my projects and you can get them both at Wal-Mart for not that much. I'm gonna talk about them both from my experience and as the old saying goes "your experience may differ" <br /><b><i> </i></b></span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i> <u>MASKING TAPE</u></i></b> <br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oxNLR_x786U/TzRLcNdZrSI/AAAAAAAAAFw/I7lRpFTiHMY/s1600/IMG_0866.JPG"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oxNLR_x786U/TzRLcNdZrSI/AAAAAAAAAFw/I7lRpFTiHMY/s400/IMG_0866.JPG" /></a><br /> I love masking tape for the simple reason that its cheap and it sticks to its self very well. just a tip here keep it out of reach from your dog or you will loose the whole roll. The main problem I have seen with masking tape is that it you press it down to hard to a painted surface it will stick to the paint and pull it free. and if you have done a lot of spray painting and it you use it to mask that paint and it pulls it up..... No fun at all. I have had this happen a few more times then I care to admit. I usually use masking tape when I am lining out my main colors and using it to block out my secondary colors area. <br /><br /><br /> <b><i><u>PAINTERS TAPE </u></i></b><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NujHAxv-cQQ/TzRLau7GRdI/AAAAAAAAAFo/k_sv1AOQjlY/s1600/IMG_0865.JPG"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NujHAxv-cQQ/TzRLau7GRdI/AAAAAAAAAFo/k_sv1AOQjlY/s400/IMG_0865.JPG" /></a><br /> Painters tape is another essential I have found you have to have. The only problem I have with this tape is that it doesn't stick very well to its self and you do have to press a little hard on it to get it to stick. The upside to that is that it will not snatch up the paint that it is covering up. I tend to use this a lot to cover up my main coat when I am spraying on my secondary colors ( such as camo patterns, lines, and shapes). well ladies and gents a little bit of a short article today but after valentines day I'm gonna post of the awesome valentines day present I am doing for my GF and show you how cheap it was to make it...... Stay tuned.</span></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18147119453905054849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4712563457171527453.post-52723126228631341822012-01-31T08:04:00.000-08:002012-01-31T08:04:54.560-08:00Hose, Hose, Hose.... (and no it's not the Christmas edition )<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> </span><span style="font-size: large;">Hello all,<br />
<br />
Well here we are guys the first article on the new website, took me a
few days to get it set up and if anyone has any comments please feel
free to send them to me <a href="mailto:flattcat@yahoo.com">( Flattcat@yahoo.com)</a>.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WZsIjlQCdz4/TygOdwETQZI/AAAAAAAAAFQ/R4q6vU7DZ2A/s1600/Image3b.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="184" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WZsIjlQCdz4/TygOdwETQZI/AAAAAAAAAFQ/R4q6vU7DZ2A/s320/Image3b.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /><br /> OK so I'm gonna talk about hoses today. I have been working on the plague priest costume for awhile now and one of the things I was worried about in cost (since well this is the cheap costuming blog's flagship costume) was the hoses going from my mask to my skull icon. </span> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4ujvFNq8q70/TygAQXvnqjI/AAAAAAAAAEg/fP7e3LrdqC4/s1600/BlackSpiralTubing2.jpg"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4ujvFNq8q70/TygAQXvnqjI/AAAAAAAAAEg/fP7e3LrdqC4/s320/BlackSpiralTubing2.jpg" /></a><br /><br /> I decided to go and price this type of hose at Lowes and Home Depot and the lowest price I was able to find was between $5.00 and $7.00 a foot, and I was gonna prolly need a few feet. So i decided that was one of the things I decided to put off to the side to see if I could just find some free hoses somewhere. Well as I was looking for treasures at my local Dollar Tree I found this:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7VVyiQL18MI/TygHfmKQG0I/AAAAAAAAAEo/SsiHInBQJQU/s1600/IMG_0901.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7VVyiQL18MI/TygHfmKQG0I/AAAAAAAAAEo/SsiHInBQJQU/s320/IMG_0901.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This is actually a product they sale that when you swing it around by the end it whistles and surprisingly they are called Whistle tubes (click picture for link):<br /><br /><a href="http://www.shopping.com/toysmith-pipe-five-tone-tube-toys/info"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-linWNoTc9aI/TygIj5_QKYI/AAAAAAAAAEw/BdKgdR4Uq_0/s1600/106246616-260x260-0-0_toysmith+pipe+five+tone+tube+toys.jpg" /></a><br /><br /> So when I looked at them that's when it hit me "holy crap there is my ribbed hoses" so I proceeded to buy 3 of them to try them out. Turns out the flared end of the tubes fit the holes in my mask like a glove:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UcGySIedHfc/TygJvgV3qWI/AAAAAAAAAE4/1t0Jq8Emukw/s1600/IMG_0788.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UcGySIedHfc/TygJvgV3qWI/AAAAAAAAAE4/1t0Jq8Emukw/s320/IMG_0788.JPG" width="240" /> </a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pSIumn6BSJY/TygKBIIkwRI/AAAAAAAAAFA/MIzWm13GEe4/s1600/IMG_0820.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pSIumn6BSJY/TygKBIIkwRI/AAAAAAAAAFA/MIzWm13GEe4/s320/IMG_0820.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> <br />These hoses are awesome because they will shape with just the heat of
your normal everyday hair dryer, Hit them with the highest heat setting
till you get them the shape you want them and then shit them with just
the fan setting. When you are bending them don't try to do too much at
one time cause they will collapse in on themselves. <br /> </span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">OK so on to painting them now. </span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I will warn you that they don't take paint very well if you dont rough them up a little bit with some fine grit sandpaper (remember kids wash them off after you sand them to get rid of the grit) I painted mine with the old stand-by my black <a href="http://www.krylon.com/products/fusion_for_plastic/">Krylon fusion spray paint. </a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pq8dCtEh9dI/TygPq8DZXfI/AAAAAAAAAFY/7TAr4YC1iHA/s1600/IMG_0902.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pq8dCtEh9dI/TygPq8DZXfI/AAAAAAAAAFY/7TAr4YC1iHA/s320/IMG_0902.JPG" width="239" /></a></span></div>
<div style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> Yes that is a paper clip I used as a hook so I could spray the whole thing at one time but that's a whole different article. So now I have a $1.00 ribbed black hosing that looks as good as the expensive stuff. this is a picture of what I'm planning on doing with them, These hoses are not painted since they are not the ones I'm going to use, they are just so I can figure out sizes</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4QnBTmIrrcs/Tyf_GiwtCYI/AAAAAAAAAEY/XZKQDwpvH5Y/s1600/IMG_0936.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4QnBTmIrrcs/Tyf_GiwtCYI/AAAAAAAAAEY/XZKQDwpvH5Y/s320/IMG_0936.JPG" width="239" /></a></span></div>
<div style="color: black; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="color: white; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">And yes that is a Warhammer 40K book holding the goggles in place. I will be doing an article in the near future on the skull Icon so stay tuned. Now remember that this is a work in progress so this may not be the last you see of the hoses. Well ladies and gents that's all I have for you today so say tuned for our next article .</span></span><br /><br /> <br /><br /> </div>

<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span data-mce-style="font-size: large;"><span data-mce-style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">First
I wanna apologize to all our loyal reader (if we have that
many.....lol) about the stretch between articles. I seem to have gotten
caught up with this thing called real life (and it sucks). For you that
don't know me in real life let me share a little about myself before we
get going. I left Active army back in 2008 and joined the reserves and
have a contract going on till 2014, well lets just say that some
"health" issues have caught up with me in the long run and I may be
ending my Army career a tad early. Below is a pic of my last flight home
from the sand box. Now that I shared that little bit lets get on to today's topic.... </span></span></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span data-mce-style="font-size: xx-large;"><span data-mce-style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;"> MUTANT CLAWS!!!!!!</span></span></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span data-mce-style="font-size: large;">Now
when I say mutant claws I know the first thing that you hear in your
head is "SNIKT" thanks to Wolverine. But now we are talking the kind of
claws that you receive for being a good little chaos worshiper. OK so
now lets go back to our favorite cheap store..... THE $1.00 STORE!!!</span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0893.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0893.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-175" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0893-1024x764.jpg" height="290" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0893-1024x764.jpg" width="389" /></a></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span data-mce-style="font-size: large;">OK
so as you see above we are starting with your plain old monster
fingers, you can get 10 in a pack for $1.00. the first thing you need to
do is try them on to get an idea of how they fit and where you are
going to have to cut them down at.</span></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span data-mce-style="font-size: large;"><a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0890.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0890.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-173" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0890-224x300.jpg" height="300" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0890-224x300.jpg" width="224" /></a><a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0891.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0891.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-174" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0891-224x300.jpg" height="300" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0891-224x300.jpg" width="224" /></a><br /> </span></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span data-mce-style="font-size: large;">As
you can see in the above pix I had to cut them down a bit for them to
fit on my big kid fingers, as you can see a little sloppy cutting but
dont worry you want see them. The plan is that with the <span data-mce-style="text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000;" style="color: red; text-decoration: underline;"><a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/2011/12/14/patient-zero/" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/2011/12/14/patient-zero/"><span data-mce-style="color: #ff0000; text-decoration: underline;" style="color: red; text-decoration: underline;">Plague preacher</span></a></span> is that where ever there is open skin it will be covered by nasty gauze.</span></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span data-mce-style="font-size: large;">So that brown color just doesn't seem to fit in with the costume does it????</span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0894.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0894.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-176" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0894-300x224.jpg" height="224" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0894-300x224.jpg" width="300" /></a></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span data-mce-style="font-size: large;">I used the<span data-mce-style="text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000;" style="color: red; text-decoration: underline;"> <a data-mce-href="http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat470011a&prodId=prod930035a" href="http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat470011a&prodId=prod930035a"><span data-mce-style="color: #ff0000; text-decoration: underline;" style="color: red; text-decoration: underline;">Rotting flesh paint color</span></a></span> and gave them a good coating but not thick enough to hide all the brown color.</span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0895.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0895.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-177" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0895-224x300.jpg" height="300" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2012/01/IMG_0895-224x300.jpg" width="224" /></a></span></div>

hey it was around and it worked to help them stand up. so as you can
see i left the nails brown for a good reason..... YES I am going to use
nail polish to paint them!!! after raiding the Girlfriends fingernail
polishes I finally settled on black. These plastic nails were just like
trying to paint real finger nails, you couldn't just slap a thick coat
on and go for it. you had to lay the polish down in layers and let them
dry.</span></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"><span data-mce-style="font-size: large;">and remember if you not wearing some of your paint then you are doing it wrong.</span></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span data-mce-style="font-size: large;">So after letting the nail polish dry for a day or so this is how they turned out:</span></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">

you see they fit a little better now and look a tad dead and nasty, a
piece of advice I can give you it that if you have a big thumb (like
yours truly) you may have to slit the bottom of the thumb claw. These
fit really tight soo we shall see what happens when I start sweating
with them on. Well ladies and gents here we are at the end of another
article about cheap costuming. If there is something you wanna see an
article on, or want to know please feel free to drop me and email and I
will see what I can do. If I cant write an article about it I will try
to see if I can find a guest writer to help out.</span></span></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18147119453905054849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4712563457171527453.post-13737879647050878142012-01-25T17:14:00.000-08:002012-06-18T15:47:58.051-07:00Sharp and Pointy.......(plague knife W.I.P.)<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><i><b><span data-mce-style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino; font-size: medium;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">When
I started collecting the stuff for the costume I debated between a

sword and banner or knife and banner the knife won out. No need looking
like the pack-mule of Nurgle. As Halloween was winding down I found this
awesome looking knife at Target for $3.00 dollars:</span></b></i></span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><i><b><span data-mce-style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino; font-size: medium;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">After

with a little help and advice from my GF (yes I have one so stop

<span style="font-size: large;"><i><b><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">OK
wayyyy back when this blog was just an idea , this was one of the ideas
that set the wheels in motion for the blog. I present you you the $1.00
store bracers one for the flagship projects of Sixpence.....</span></b></i></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><i><b><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">So
with the holidays over I decided to swing in and post up some pics of a
project I am working on. I have been working on my Renaissance Klingon
for a while. </span></b></i></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><i><b><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">So
I decided I needed a pair of bracers, after looking around and seeing
the cost I decided to see what I could do cheap. While I was looking at
the $1.00 store and saw what was supposed to be a hand gauntlet for kids
but I looked at in and a little brain storming I bought 2 sets of them
(2 to a set). So after a little cutting and shaping, I sprayed them with
a nice Gold paint I had and ended up with this:</span></b></i></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><i><b><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;"> <img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" data-mce-src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/John_Stump/cheap%20brachers/IMG_0795.jpg" data-mce-style="border: 0pt none;" height="239" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/John_Stump/cheap%20brachers/IMG_0795.jpg" style="border: 0pt none;" width="320" /></span></b></i><br /><i><b><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">
Got these painted and decided they needed a little more character so
after me and my Girlfriend sat around and talked about it I decided to
do some taping and ad some silver to them:</span></b></i></span> </div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><i><b><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;"> <img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" data-mce-src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/John_Stump/cheap%20brachers/IMG_0859.jpg" data-mce-style="border: 0pt none;" height="320" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/John_Stump/cheap%20brachers/IMG_0859.jpg" style="border: 0pt none;" width="239" /></span></b></i><br /><i><b><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;"> So now we have silver and decided to add a little bronze to them to help break up the colors (the color I used is called <span data-mce-style="color: #ff0000;" style="color: red;"><a data-mce-href="http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat470014a&prodId=prod930004a" href="http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat470014a&prodId=prod930004a" target="_blank"><span data-mce-style="color: #ff0000;" style="color: red;">Dwarf bronze</span></a></span>) :</span></b></i></span> </div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><i><b><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;"> <img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" data-mce-src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/John_Stump/cheap%20brachers/IMG_0860.jpg" data-mce-style="border: 0pt none;" height="320" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/John_Stump/cheap%20brachers/IMG_0860.jpg" style="border: 0pt none;" width="239" /></span></b></i></span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">Hello
again all.... its the time that I know a few have been waiting for, the
beginning post of the Plague Preacher. So let me start off with a
picture of the costume that has inspired me to work on this costume:</span></i></b></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NcCoSelDRWk/T9-rQ0PQjaI/AAAAAAAAAVI/rLgPM_SGYzo/s1600/Nurpreach7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="272" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NcCoSelDRWk/T9-rQ0PQjaI/AAAAAAAAAVI/rLgPM_SGYzo/s320/Nurpreach7.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">This is a model that is offered from <span data-mce-style="color: #ff0000;" style="color: red;"><a data-mce-href="http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/" href="http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/"><span data-mce-style="color: #ff0000;" style="color: red;">Forge World</span></a></span>
(a company that makes high quality models for Warhammer 40K). I saw
this model towards the end of Dragon*Con last year and it stuck in my
head. First and foremost I am not trying to copy this costume I am using
it for inspiration, so if you see something I'm doing and you can find
it on the model don't freak out. Ok so now we have the idea time to get
the materials together. After a few trips to Dollar store (during the
Halloween seasons) We acquired prolly 90% of the costume at a very low
cost, as you can see bellow:</span></i></b></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5BjZD2VzMhE/T9-r3DL8yVI/AAAAAAAAAVQ/F6T26eqYMR8/s1600/Dollartree.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5BjZD2VzMhE/T9-r3DL8yVI/AAAAAAAAAVQ/F6T26eqYMR8/s320/Dollartree.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
</div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;"></span></i></b></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">The
most expensive part of the costume will prolly be the robe component of
the costume (which my Girlfriend is gonna hate making) the cost of it
is going to be in the material to make it. One of the items I was very
excited about getting for FREE was the respirator for the face mask</span></i></b></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gxdVxVgpHJI/T9-sGvc8voI/AAAAAAAAAVY/q6ufCt_tWjQ/s1600/IMG_0709.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gxdVxVgpHJI/T9-sGvc8voI/AAAAAAAAAVY/q6ufCt_tWjQ/s320/IMG_0709.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
</div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;"></span></i></b></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">This
was an example of just asking around for stuff people are gonna get rid
of. The person I got this from was going to toss it because he had
gotten a better one. Before you say ewwwwwwww it had only been used once
and I cleaned it hardcore with rubbing alcohol. So after we started
getting the peices together it was time to try and lay out the idea for
what goes where. So I took the main photo and slapped into paint and
made a few notes:</span></i></b></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-csX-VKoTrY8/T9-sQu6lyZI/AAAAAAAAAVg/3FNfTQCw4FM/s1600/Nurpreach7+Idea+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-csX-VKoTrY8/T9-sQu6lyZI/AAAAAAAAAVg/3FNfTQCw4FM/s320/Nurpreach7+Idea+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;"> Here is where I'm gonna throw out a lesson I learned last year....... <span data-mce-style="text-decoration: underline;" style="text-decoration: underline;">PLAN OUT YOUR COSTUME!!!!!</span> We made the mistake last year of trying to do everything by the seat of our pants and got lost and screwed up a few times.</span></i></b></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">After
seeing the "plan" we decided to start seeing how things fir together.

(this was accomplished with a small pair of wire cutters:</span></i></b></span><br />

Below is a pic of one of the deals we got:</span></i></b></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">This
was part of a "skeleton in a bag deal" we got that was on sale from
$15.00 down to $4.00, and all the bones in the bag are life-size!!!.
Little word of wisdom after the Halloween season grab up as many skulls
and bones as you can because once Halloween is over and done with skulls
and bones are hard to find unless you wanna pay high cost on Ebay or
costuming stores.</span></i></b></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">After

could rotate I broke out the early Christmas present from the girlfriend

<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<strong><em>I
don't know much about how these things are outside of Europe, but here
hobby stores (you know, stores that target bored middle-aged housewives
compared to DIY stores that target guys hassled by their bored wives
with "Oh, darling, you should paint the fence white so it will go with
these wonderful patchwork pillows I made for the rocking chair on the
front porch! Bone white, not eggshell white please.") tend to sell a lot
of stuff you can buy cheaper at other places, that are specialized in
certain fields (home improvement, DIY, plumbing, electronics etc.). It
might cost you some time, but you'll get a bigger package of plaster,
wire, various glues, paints (and brushes!) for a lot less. You will also
have a larger selection of all these things than in hobby stores.</em></strong><br /> <strong><em>Buying
in bulk is also an option, you never know when you will need more of
that neon green plumbing tube. (No, really, you can never know. Just
remember the feeling when you need exactly that and it's sold out in the
whole freaking city!)</em></strong><br /> <strong><em>The appointed
basket at the gate of our apartment house is always full and there are
at least 2-3 types of advertisement catalogues from DIY stores, so one
can even compare prices.</em></strong><br /> <strong><em>The secret again
is that one should not leave things to be done at the last moment, so
one won't be tempted to buy the same thing for fourfold the price just
to have it quickly. Yes, you might have go to the other end of the city,
but when you make two lists of the things you need for your costume,
one with the cheapest and one with downtown prices, you'll notice the
difference. Rather spend that difference on something nice, like for
your beloved one who is very patient with your weird hobby. (Or GW's
Chaos Black spray paint, like I do. Really, you want to be nice to me,
send a can over to old Europe.)</em></strong><br /> <strong><em>Though my
current example isn't costuming related, doing things yourself instead
of buying them might also leave you with more money in your pocket. We
needed a battle mat for our Dark Heresy party, so I bought a 28x40 inch
piece of paper for 50 cents, made an inch grid on one and a centimeter
grid on the other side, traveled to the other end of the city and got it
laminated for 6.50 dollars. So for 7 dollars I have now a custom battle
mat fitting our picky European taste (hex grid? bah!). It would have
cost me up to 50 dollars plus shipping (with the chance of it getting
lost in the mail) for a commercially available one. Time is money, as
they say, and come to think of it, I spared more money doing that mat
than what I would have earned in the time that it took to make it
including the bus ride.</em></strong></div>

<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="background-color: #f3f3f3; color: black; text-align: center;">
<span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino; color: #000000;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino; font-size: small;">We have a guest article here today from a forum friend on <span data-mce-style="color: #ff0000;"><a data-mce-href="http://z6.invisionfree.com/Obscurus_Crusade/index.php?act=idx" href="http://z6.invisionfree.com/Obscurus_Crusade/index.php?act=idx"><span data-mce-style="color: #ff0000;">Obscurus Crusade</span></a></span> and he talks about 3 things that you should <span data-mce-style="text-decoration: underline;" style="text-decoration: underline;"><b><i>NEVER</i></b></span> skip on when you are doing your costuming. So with out anymore yapping from me I present <b><i>Seraphic Machine</i></b>:</span><br />
<span data-mce-style="color: #000000;"><a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/12/av-265.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/12/av-265.jpg"><span data-mce-style="color: #000000;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-127" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/12/av-265.jpg" height="73" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/12/av-265.jpg" width="73" /></span></a></span><br />
<span data-mce-style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000000;" style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: small;">There are three things one should not spare on, the first of them being of course <span data-mce-style="font-size: large;" style="font-size: medium;"><i><span data-mce-style="text-decoration: underline;" style="text-decoration: underline;"><b>safety</b>.</span></i></span>
Accidents do happen even to the practiced, and it goes without saying
that one should not leave his bodily soundness to good luck (like when a
sewing machine needle broke and a rather pointy piece of it splinced
off of my glasses). A box of latex gloves costs a dollar or two, but
there are fifty pairs of them in it, and they will last for years, not
to speak of safety goggles, masks and the rest. </span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="background-color: #f3f3f3; color: black; text-align: center;">
<span data-mce-style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000000;" style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: small;">And we are already at the second point: <span data-mce-style="font-size: large;" style="font-size: medium;"><i><span data-mce-style="text-decoration: underline;" style="text-decoration: underline;"><b>tools</b>.</span></i></span>
The quality of your tools contributes to the quality of your work. You
might find very cheap ones, but think of them more as investments: a
tool worth its money will last your whole life long, and honestly, the
chances that inexplicable (even dangerous) malfunctions happen are also a
lot lower with brands of long standing.</span><br />
<span data-mce-style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000000;" style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: small;">And finally: </span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="background-color: #f3f3f3; color: black; text-align: center;">
<span data-mce-style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000000;" style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: small;">The <span data-mce-style="font-size: large;" style="font-size: medium;"><i><span data-mce-style="text-decoration: underline;" style="text-decoration: underline;"><b>effort</b></span></i></span>
you put into your costumes clearly shows. One hears a lot of horror
stories about glued-on bows and taped-together cardboard weapons, but
there is a clear difference between saving time and slapping something
together. When you aren't in the mood, you are irritated or
scatterbrained, just leave it lie (but don't forget to make a time plan
so you won't be forced to rush in the end), until you can sit down fully
concentrated again. If needed, re-do the parts you are unsatisfied
with, this way you won't spend your time in costume cramping about
whether anyone will notice it, and you will be proud of yourself for
this professional approach. After all, we aspire to be the best of the
best</span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="background-color: #f3f3f3; color: black; text-align: center;">
<span data-mce-style="color: #000000;"><a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/12/av-265.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/12/av-265.jpg"><span data-mce-style="color: #000000;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-127" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/12/av-265.jpg" height="73" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/12/av-265.jpg" width="73" /></span></a></span></div>

<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span data-mce-style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino; font-size: medium;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino; font-size: large;"><i><b>I recently purchased one of the live steel <a data-mce-href="http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/D%27k_tahg" href="http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/D%27k_tahg">Daqtagh (klingon honor blade)</a>
at Dragon*Con (for a steal at $30.00). I have always loved the live
steel version but the whole "crown of thorns" on the end has always
bothered me, so with new Dremel in hand I decided to fix that problem
here is the original:</b></i></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">

a little experimenting finding the right blades to cut with ( damn my
mate for buying me the 80 piece set with it.) I finally got that top off
the dagger, I took one of the sanding attachments and sanded down all
the edges and also rounded off the edges:</b></i></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">

just to drill a hole in the bottom and keep test fitting it till I got a
tight fit.</b></i></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span data-mce-style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino; font-size: medium;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino; font-size: large;"><i><b><img alt="" border="0" data-mce-src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/John_Stump/Klingon%20Stuff/IMG_0784.jpg" src="http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/John_Stump/Klingon%20Stuff/IMG_0784.jpg" /></b></i></span></div>

I finally got the tight fit and decided to fill the skull with Gorilla
glue (careful with this stuff cause it will expand 3-4X the amount you
add). The next day after cleaning up a lil bit of overflow from the glue

Knife. After everything set I decided to add a little more details to
the knife and wrapped the handle with some leather straps I had laying

<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i>At about 5 p.m. Monday November 21st, 2011, Anne McCaffrey passed away.<br />
Mum was getting ready to go back to the hospital because she was
feeling "puny" and collapsed while she was moving into her wheelchair.
Her daughter, Georgeanne Kennedy, and son-in-law, Geoffrey Kennedy were
with her. She was in no pain and it was over in an instant.<br /> She
first had a heart attack in late 2000 and a stroke in 2001, so we were
well-prepared and knew that we were on "golden time" with Mum these past
ten years and more.<br /> She leaves behind an incredible legacy of
marvelous books and a huge legion of fans. She won practically every
major award in available to authors of science fiction and fantasy,
including both Hugo and Nebula Awards, the American Library
Association's Margaret A. Edwards award for Lifetime Literary
achievement in Young Adult fiction, was an inductee into the Science
Fiction Hall of Fame, and was a SFWA Nebula Grandmaster.<br /> She was
also a great cook, magnificent mother, doting grandmother, ardent
quilter, knitter, bridge player, horsewoman, fencer, actress, singer,
and all-around nice person.<br /> We are blessed to have known her, just
as we are blessed with the knowledge that she has touched so many lives
and made such huge changes in them.<br /> Mum always said, "Don't just pay
back a favor -- pass it on!" In light of that spirit, we ask that,
instead of condolences or flowers, that commemorators make a donation to
their favorite charity.<br /> We know that we haven't lost Mum -- that
she has truly passed on her legacy of love and honor to all those who
were touched by her -- and that we have only to open one of her books to
find her again.<br /> Rest well, Mum, you've earned it!</i></b></span></blockquote>

<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i>I
never had a chance to meet Ms. McCaffrey in real life but she was still
a very large influence on my life. When I was a child I had a small
reading disorder (not able to finish a book or keep up). Dragonsong was
one of the first books that I made myself read all the way thru. The
book was given to me by our school librarian, after reading Dragonsong I
made it a point to finish the entire Harper Hall Trilogy. After
finishing that trilogy I was hooked on her works and read the entire
Pern series. I remember I actually cried at the end of All the Weyrs of
Pern when Masterhaper Robinton died, and to this day The White Dragon is
still one of my favorite books, and to this day I live my life by one
of her quotes:</i></b></span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino; font-size: medium;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;"><i><b>Ok so lets get down to the down and dirty on how to make yourself one of these cool books.</b></i></span></i></b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0333.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0333.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-98" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0333-224x300.jpg" height="300" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0333-224x300.jpg" width="224" /></a></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">OK so step one is to figure out how the book is going to fit in with your costume, since I was working on a <span data-mce-style="color: #00ffff;" style="color: cyan;"><a data-mce-href="http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Inquisition" href="http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Inquisition"><span data-mce-style="color: #00ffff;" style="color: cyan;">Warhammer 40K Inquisitor </span></a></span>,
I figured that I need a tome to keep track of all the heretics I burned
So off to Hobby Lobby we go. OK so at Hobby lobby if you go back into
the section where they sale paper products you can find these awesome
cardboard books for $2.00 (now they will be on sale all the time soooo).
Now when we got home the first thing I did was glue it shut ( a mistake
I learned later down the road ) The blue rubber bands you see holding
it shut are recycled from our Sunday paper (yes I am that cheap) </span></i></b><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">OK
So as our glue is drying I started laying out the design of the book to
get an idea of what it was going to look like down the road. This is a
great thing to do so that you can also make sure the parts are working
out together and also fit your idea.</span></i></b><a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0334.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0334.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-99" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0334-300x224.jpg" height="224" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0334-300x224.jpg" width="300" /></a></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">Yes as you can see <span data-mce-style="color: #00ffff;" style="color: cyan;"><a data-mce-href="http://www.coca-cola.com/en/index.html" href="http://www.coca-cola.com/en/index.html"><span data-mce-style="color: #00ffff;" style="color: cyan;">Coca-Cola</span></a></span>
is also one of the major ingredients of all costuming projects. So you
can see the wooden "I" and the under symbol (made from cardboard.......
yes cardboard I tell ya)</span></i></b>. </span><span data-mce-style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino; font-size: large;"><i><b><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium;">So
now that we have our Glue dry its time to start that all important step
called painting. So Since I decided to make the symbol on the book
based on the Chaos deity <span data-mce-style="color: #00ffff;" style="color: cyan;"><a data-mce-href="http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Khorne" href="http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Khorne"><span data-mce-style="color: #00ffff;" style="color: cyan;">Khrone</span></a></span>
and his colors are red and bronze we decided to base the books on those
colors. We base coated the book in black first and then sprayed it with
a maroon coating. The black undercoat bleed thru the red a little bit
and gave it a nice dark color.<a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0343.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0343.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-100" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0343-150x150.jpg" height="150" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0343-150x150.jpg" width="150" /></a></span></b></i></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0348.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0348.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-101" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0348-150x150.jpg" height="150" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0348-150x150.jpg" width="150" /></a></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span data-mce-style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino; font-size: large;"><i><b><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium;">The spine of the book painted with antique gold (no thoses are not my hands {thanks to Dana Tyler} holding the book) </span></b></i></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0349.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0349.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-102" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0349-150x150.jpg" height="150" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0349-150x150.jpg" width="150" /></a></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><i><b><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">Now
this is the actual pages of the book we painted them with the same
antique gold paint but in the process the black undercoat came thru and
created a happy oops. A happy oops is where you make a mistake and it
looks awesome instead of being bad. We realized that the black bleeding
thru gave it a very old book look.</span></b></i></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0342.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0342.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-110" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0342-224x300.jpg" height="300" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0342-224x300.jpg" width="224" /></a></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><i><b><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">Ok
so now we have paint drying on the book time to go into the detail
work. The Khrone symbol on the book was made by trying the symbol on to
cardboard (piece of Nerf box). After it was cut out we painted it with
more of the antique gold paint</span></b></i><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">The
"I" was the next thing to get some personal attention, we decided to
paint it bronze to stand out and then edged it with silver and black,
again thanks to Dana Tyler for the use of her hands<a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0350.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0350.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-103" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0350-150x150.jpg" height="150" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0350-150x150.jpg" width="150" /></a></span></i></b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0344.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0344.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-111" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0344-150x150.jpg" height="150" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0344-150x150.jpg" width="150" /></a></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">So
now we have paints dry and such so we laid everything out together and
see what it looked like before we started to clue it all down</span></i></b></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0373.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0373.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-115" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0373-150x150.jpg" height="150" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0373-150x150.jpg" width="150" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a data-mce-href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0347.jpg" href="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0347.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-114" data-mce-src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0347-150x150.jpg" height="150" src="http://sixpencecostuming.blog.com/files/2011/11/IMG_0347-150x150.jpg" width="150" /></a></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><i><b><span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">Now
we started to glue everything down and ran into a HUGE mistake and
almost had to start completely over. when we decided to attach the
chains so they wouldn't bounce around or fall off we used <span data-mce-style="color: #00ffff;" style="color: cyan;"><a data-mce-href="http://www.gorillaglue.com/glues/gorillaglue/index.aspx" href="http://www.gorillaglue.com/glues/gorillaglue/index.aspx"><span data-mce-style="color: #00ffff;" style="color: cyan;">Gorilla Glue</span></a></span> instead of <span data-mce-style="color: #00ffff;" style="color: cyan;"><a data-mce-href="http://www.biosafe-inc.com/all_purpose.htm" href="http://www.biosafe-inc.com/all_purpose.htm"><span data-mce-style="color: #00ffff;" style="color: cyan;">Goop</span></a></span>.
Now we didn't know that Gorilla Glue expands, so later that evening
Dana went to check on how it was drying and it had expanded and covered
the chains. Luck for us the glue didn't stick to the paint of the clasp
so all we had to do was break the clasp free and replace the chain. So
before the "I" was glued on we glued on the Khrone symbol and also added
8 carpet tacks to give it a little character. after everything was
glued on and given a coat of clear coat to seal and protect the colors
we added 2 small eye hooks (painted bronze) in the top and bottom of the
book so that we could hang it. so here is a completed picture of the

look forward to seeing some more from her in the future. What I'm gonna
talk about in this article is costuming groups and FANdom groups. I
know that we have been talking about cheap costuming but let me jump off
the train for a second and talk about groups. I am currently part of a
couple of groups that focus on Warhammer 40K costuming and Klingon
costuming. I will say that both groups have been a huge help to my
costuming growth. The great thing about being part of a group is the
knowledge base that is out there, There are people out there that have
wayyyyyyyyy more costuming knowledge then I do. </span></b></i></span><br />
<div data-mce-style="padding-left: 30px;" style="padding-left: 30px;">
<span data-mce-style="font-size: medium;" style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">The main group that I am part of is called <span data-mce-style="text-decoration: underline;" style="text-decoration: underline;"><span data-mce-style="color: #33cccc; text-decoration: underline;" style="color: #33cccc; text-decoration: underline;"><a data-mce-href="http://z6.invisionfree.com/Obscurus_Crusade/index.php?" href="http://z6.invisionfree.com/Obscurus_Crusade/index.php?" target="_blank"><span data-mce-style="color: #33cccc; text-decoration: underline;" style="color: #33cccc; text-decoration: underline;">Obscurus Crusade</span></a></span></span>
and they focus mostly on Warhammer 40K costuming. This is a great group
of people that i had the pleasure of meeting a good many of them at
Dragon*Con 2011. This group is a good group for people that are just
starting out or if your an old pro. I came to the Obscurus Crusade with
very little costuming knowledge and was a little afraid to as some of
the Newbie questions, so I stalked the forums for a little while and
after seeing the kinda of help they were giving people I started posting
and asking questions. The help and also motivation i received from
these guys was essential in finishing my Inquisitor costume.</span></i></b></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="padding-left: 30px;" style="padding-left: 30px;">
<span data-mce-style="font-size: medium;" style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">The other costuming group I am part of is <span data-mce-style="text-decoration: underline; color: #33cccc;" style="color: #33cccc; text-decoration: underline;"><span data-mce-style="color: #33cccc; text-decoration: underline;" style="color: #33cccc; text-decoration: underline;">K.A.G (Klingon Assault Group).</span></span><span data-mce-style="color: #33cccc;" style="color: #33cccc;"><span data-mce-style="color: #33cccc;" style="color: #33cccc;"> </span></span>This
group focuses mostly on costuming for well....Klingons. They are also
an activity group and also do a lot of charity work. This group is also
full of lots of knowledge and craftsmen. They are very welcoming to new
members and love to help get new members "ridged up'd" as they like to
say.</span></i></b></span></div>
<div data-mce-style="padding-left: 30px;" style="padding-left: 30px;">
<span data-mce-style="font-size: medium;" style="font-size: large;"><b><i><span data-mce-style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;" style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino;">Now
just talking groups in general there are good and bad things that come
with being part of a group, The good thing is that you are able to make a
lot of new friends and the knowledge. The bad thing is that there can
be a lot of Drama so be warned. Not all groups will be drama filled but
some are. I know that some people do great with groups and some don't
so it's your own preference. Well ladies and gents I'm going to close up
this article with one piece of personal advice from yours truly, <span data-mce-style="text-decoration: underline;" style="text-decoration: underline;">"do
what feels right for you, if you like going solo then by all means stay
solo. If you like having a group of people to ask advice from then
please find a great group." </span></span></i></b></span></div>

<span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: helvetica; color: #000000;" style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: large;">Greetings
everyone! I thought I would start off my first blog post with a quick
discussion on one of the most beautiful sights a shopper can see: The
Clearance Rack. ::insert angelic music and heavenly glow::</span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="color: white; text-align: center;">
<span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: helvetica; color: #000000;" style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: large;">Halloween
is a great time to pick up hard to find costuming pieces, not just for
the season, but for any and all costuming needs. Clothing, jewelry,
accessories, makeup, spirit glue, etc. If there is something that you
just HAVE to get and there is a chance the store will sell out of it,
then I would recommend picking it up while you can. Otherwise, wait for
the day after the holiday and hit the stores early. Leave for work a
little earlier than usual if needed. But dig through those bins
thoroughly because you never know what you may find! Example: John had
been looking at the halloween skeletons for his Plague Priest costume
that he's working on, but I kept balking at the $10 price tag on it. Day
after halloween I had to stop at Walgreens for some items and naturally
hit the clearance section. Lo and behold, I found his skeleton for
$3.99! (Woot!) </span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="color: white; text-align: center;">
<span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: helvetica; color: #000000;" style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: large;">So
the moral of today's blog: always shop the holiday clearance rack
because you never know what untold treasure(s) are waiting for you!</span></div>
<div data-mce-style="text-align: center;" style="color: white; text-align: center;">
<span data-mce-style="font-size: medium; font-family: helvetica; color: #000000;" style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: large;">Have a great evening everyone and keep pinching those pennies til you make Lincoln squeal!</span></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18147119453905054849noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4712563457171527453.post-9563287451610714542012-01-25T16:43:00.000-08:002012-06-18T15:23:39.243-07:00Happy Halloween<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
